Gernot Rohr’s sack: Uncertainty as Nigeria search for new coach

Gernot Rohr is gone.

The Franco-German is no longer the Super Eagles head coach, following a virtual meeting of the NFF Executive Committee on Sunday.

But it feels Rohr should have been gone since 2018, after Nigeria failed to qualify from their World Cup group. The team needed a draw against Argentina to progress. Somehow, they conceded a late goal and duly crashed out.

Another good time to have sacked him, was after the 4-4 draw with Sierra Leone in November 2020. Rohr’s men threw away a four-goal lead, a result that NFF president, Amaju Pinnick, described as the worst under his tenure.

EPL You need a kick up the backside – Agbonlahor slams Tuchel over Lukaku

Aston Villa legend, Gabriel Agbonlahor has blasted Chelsea boss, Thomas Tuchel for deciding to drop Romelu Lukaku on the bench in recent weeks.

Lukaku returned from injury during Chelsea’s Premier League draw with Manchester United on November 28.

However, the Belgium international is scarcely used by Tuchel who only brings him on lately in recent games, handing the former Inter Milan ace a three-minute cameo in the 3-2 win over Leeds at the weekend.

And Agbonlahor, believes the German gaffer “needs a kick up the backside” for playing Timo Werner instead of Lukaku.

Premier League is doomed – Graeme Souness cries after Maddison’s penalty against Newcastle

Former Newcastle manager, Graeme Souness has insisted the Premier League was “doomed” after James Maddison won a controversial penalty against Newcastle United on Sunday.

Souness was irate after the referee and the video assistant referee decided to award Leicester a soft first half penalty after Maddison tangled with Jamal.

The former Newcastle manager and Sky Sports pundit said that Maddison actually kicked himself to win the spot-kick.

“If we’re giving penalties for that we’re doomed,” Souness ranted after the match.

“Maddison actually kicks himself. He gets himself in the air and runs into (Newcastle defender Jamaal) Lascelles.” Manchester United, Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool all won their Premier League matches this weekend through a controversial penalty.
