Hoodlums raided Abayi police station, Aba, in Osisioma local government area, Abia State; in the early hours of Tuesday.

News made available to Obinwannem revealed that the thugs burnt all operational vehicles parked within the premises of the police station.

Abia State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO Mr Geoffrey Ogbonna confirmed the incident. He said thugs numbering over one hundred, attacked the police station from a nearby compound with the intention of taken over the station.

However, the attackers released some suspects (prisoners) in the police station during the raid.

He added that some policemen who were on duty, engaged the hoodlums in a gun battle, which led in the death of one policeman; the attackers recorded casualties, while many of them fled with bullet wounds.

Ogbonna added that some of the hoodlums have been arrested by the police, while investigation has begun to fish out the culprits.

He urged all health facilities in the state especially in Aba to report anybody with suspected bullet injuries that ask for treatment to the police.

“Hospitals can give treatment to people with (suspected) bullet injuries to revive them, but you should do well to report such a person to a nearby police station,” he said.
