Obinwannem News There's no essence for 'one Nigeria,' but Yoruba Nation — Sunday Igboho

Yoruba activist Sunday Adeyemo Igboho, and deluge of enraged youths staged a protest Saturday in Ondo State capital, Akure, agitating for Oduduwa Republic. Igboho affirmed that no form of pressure, or threat would obstruct the realization of the Yoruba Nation.

The agitators under the auspices llana Omo Oodua converged on Isinkan roundabout before marching to other parts of the states capital causing gridlock.

Masquerades, market women, youths, Okada riders also joined in their protest in the State capital.

Security agencies deployed their personnel to guide against the hijacking of the protest by miscreants.

While addressing the first class traditional ruler in the state, the Deji of Akure land, Oba Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi, Igboho said there was no need of one Nigeria, asserting that his people were marginalized.

Igboho said, “We don’t want one Nigeria again, but Yoruba Nation. There is no essence for one Nigeria, we are being marginalized. We say enough is enough!

“Enough is enough. No going back. We are not scared of anybody, these killer herders are taking our land and they are killing and raping our wives, female children, in our presence, and would also take our land.

“We are not safe in our country, we can’t sleep in peace, we can’t travel in peace, we can’t go to our farm in peace, what have we done? Is it a sin or are we slaves in our fatherland?

“Please what have we done wrong? We have chosen the wrong leaders and we are now tired and saying that enough is enough!

Igboho also acknowledged the efforts of Yorubas traditional rulers. ” We have now realized that all our traditional rulers are with us in this struggle,” he noted.

“The traditional rulers in the Southwest and all our governors in the region are united with us in the agitation”.

Igboho lamented, while speaking on the role of traditional rulers, that they have been relegated by the political class and turned to errand boys, and in some cases threatened for not dancing to their music.

According to him, “This is demeaning, and we are saying ‘enough is enough’. Traditional rulers should be accorded their rightful place in decision making.

Wheras, Edemo of Akure land, High Chief, Afolabi Fayehun, on behalf of the Monarch, appealed to the agitators not to consent to violence, but present their demands peacefully and with decorum.

However, the group’s spokesman, Maxwell Adeleye, had assured that the rally would not be violent, and that “there would not be any form of criminality”.

Adeleye was quoted to have said that they “shall peacefully, logically and intellectually achieve our independence without violence, bloodshed”.
