THE DANGERS OF ETHNIC SLURS BY MR. ANIEBIET S. ARCHIBONG, AKA SUNNY AKPARAWA, AND THE THREAT TO BIAFRAN UNITY
If you are a pro-Igbo-Biafran following Mr. Aniebiet S. Archibong aka Sunny Akparawa ( SUNNY MEDIA), one must question the judgment behind such support. Akparawa’s actions and rhetoric have raised significant concerns about his true intentions regarding Biafra’s unity and independence.
Sunny Akparawa’s recent comments have targeted the Igbo ethnic group, using derogatory language that not only offends but also undermines the collective struggle for Biafran independence. The use of ethnic slurs by someone supposedly advocating for Biafran sovereignty reveals a disturbing strategy aimed at division rather than unity. Such actions are not just insensitive; they are calculated to sow discord among the diverse ethnic groups within the Biafran region, particularly between the Igbo and other groups like the Ibibio or Annang. This approach directly contradicts the foundational idea of Biafra as a united, multi-ethnic state fighting for self-determination.
The historical context of Biafra, where numerous non-Igbo ethnic groups, including Ibibio, Ijaw, and others, played significant roles in both the civil war and the post-war struggles, underscores the danger of Akparawa’s divisive tactics. The narrative that Biafra is solely an Igbo issue ignores the sacrifices and contributions of these groups, risking the alienation of key allies in the quest for independence.
Sunny Akparawa’s sole intent is to frame the Igbos as the sole cause of Biafra’s problems, by his use of ethnic slurs, Akparawa risks reigniting historical ethnic animosities that could disrupt the cohesive front necessary for any successful independence movement.
Unity is the cornerstone of any political or independence movement. By promoting ethnic hatred, Akparawa undermines the collective strength and solidarity that Biafra needs, both internally and in the global arena.
His rhetoric might convince non-Igbo communities that their interests are not aligned with those of the Igbo, potentially leading them to withdraw support or even oppose the movement, seeing it as an Igbo-centric endeavour rather than a shared cause.
The question then becomes: what is Akparawa’s end game? His actions suggest a strategy aimed at:
1. His focus on ethnic division could be a distraction from addressing genuine grievances or from the actual work needed for Biafran independence, such as diplomatic efforts, economic planning, or political organization.
2. Undermining True Leadership: By discrediting the Igbo leadership, which has traditionally been at the forefront of the Biafran movement, Akparawa could be attempting to sideline established leaders, thereby reshaping the movement’s direction to his benefit.
For those who believe in the cause of Biafra, it is crucial to see through such divisive tactics. Akparawa’s approach does not serve the interests of Biafra or its diverse peoples but instead threatens to fragment the region further. True advocacy for Biafra should be about fostering unity, acknowledging the contributions of all ethnic groups, and working towards a common goal of autonomy and peace, not ethnic strife.
The real fight for Biafra should not be against each other but against the systemic challenges that prevent the realization of a sovereign state. As supporters of Biafra, it’s imperative to be vigilant against those who might exploit ethnic identities for personal or political gain, thereby undermining the collective dream of independence.
