The Nigerian Government’s Betrayal of Its People: A Call for Accountability and Change
As Obinwannem Foundation Worldwide, led by Mazi Okechukwu Ugwu, we stand in solidarity with millions of Nigerians who have been subjected to the harsh realities of an administration that has lost touch with the people. It is increasingly evident that the Federal Government of Nigeria is making policy decisions that continue to worsen the lives of ordinary citizens. This inconsistency in governance, characterized by abrupt policy shifts, highlights a deeper issue of systemic failure and a lack of true leadership.
One of the latest examples of the government’s chaotic governance is the sudden U-turn on age limits for WAEC and NECO examinations. Such hasty reversals of decisions are emblematic of a government that has no coherent plan for the future of its youth. Education, a critical pillar of any society, should not be subjected to such careless policy-making. What does this mean for the future of Nigerian children and the integrity of our education system?
But this is just the tip of the iceberg. The Nigerian people are currently living under the weight of multiple crises:
Soaring food prices that have made it difficult for families to afford even the most basic meals. Unbearable transportation costs due to reckless subsidy removal and poor fuel management.
Skyrocketing electricity bills in exchange for poor power supply. Exorbitant school fees make education a privilege for the few, not a right for all. Rising costs of essential medications, leave Nigerians at the mercy of a broken healthcare system.
This administration’s failure extends into the security sector, where daily headlines of kidnapping, banditry, and armed robbery strike fear into the hearts of ordinary citizens. How can a government that claims to protect its people allow such rampant insecurity to continue unchecked?
We in Obinwannem Foundation Worldwide have to call out these failures not only for the sake of Igbo culture and heritage but for all Nigerians who are living under this oppression. We see through the political games being played by the ruling class, and we are fully aware that the manipulations of Tinubunomics and the so-called ‘Tinubutocracy’ are tactics to keep the political elite in power while ordinary Nigerians suffer.
We also know that the APC is losing its appeal among the people, and rightly so. The suffering that Nigerians have endured under this administration will not be forgotten come 2027. The government may try to make it difficult for the people to exercise their democratic rights by complicating the process of obtaining voter cards. We urge every Nigerian to prepare, to get their voter cards now, and be ready to speak out with their votes.
As Mazi Okechukwu Ugwu has often reminded us, we must protect and preserve our cultural heritage, and part of that preservation includes demanding accountability from those who govern us. The Igbo people, like all Nigerians, deserve a government that prioritizes their welfare, not one that enriches the few at the expense of the many.
