The NDC has become the political “Eke Onuwa” market

Let us not forget what happened in 2023

The NDC has become the political Eke Onuwa market. The NDC has become the political Eke Onuwa market.

The NDC has become the political “Eke Onuwa” market.

TICKETS NOW AVAILABLE TO THE HIGHEST BIDDER

Following the bold resignation of Mazi Chinonso Uba from the Mbaitoli NDC, one thing has become crystal clear: the NDC is rapidly turning into a marketplace where political tickets are auctioned off to the highest bidder.

In his statement, Mazi Uba rightly lamented how the zoning arrangement in Mbaitoli LGA, where the three zones have traditionally rotated the State Constituency seat, has been casually discarded.
Umunoha, which is yet to produce a member for the Imo House of Assembly, has been sidelined in favour of areas that have already had their turn. The excuse? Someone with deeper pockets apparently made a better offer.

This is not just a Mbaitoli problem. It is happening across Imo State and much of Nigeria. The NDC, which drew thousands because of HE Peter Obi’s message of integrity, competence, and fairness, is now being hijacked by political opportunists who possess neither principles, ideology, nor loyalty to the ideals that made the movement magnetic in the first place.

These characters treat every election season like a fresh business opportunity. They extort aspirants, impose candidates, and sell forms with the same enthusiasm that traders display at a village market. Reliable whispers suggest that even House of Representatives forms have been priced as high as ₦25 million in some areas, while self-appointed “leaders” continue to milk Peter Obi’s hard-earned goodwill for personal gain.

Let us not forget what happened in 2023. Many rode the powerful Obi wave to victory, only to defect shamelessly to the ruling APC shortly after. The same opportunists who shouted “Obidient!” the loudest are today busy delivering some of the worst representation imaginable.
We gave them our mandates, they gave us resignation letters in return If we allow these highest bidders and ticket merchants to dominate the corridors of power again, the betrayal of 2027 will make 2023 look like child’s play.

We cannot repeat the same mistake.
In 2027, the era of blind bandwagon politics must end. We will no longer vote for parties or waves. We will vote for individuals, men and women of character, competence, and conscience, regardless of the platform they contest on.

Peter Obi’s movement was never designed to be a vehicle for political traders and serial defectors. HE Peter Obi has built a reputation of integrity, and a record of accountability we therefore cannot allow these political opportunist with no character dent the reputation of Okute Ndi Igbo.

Mazi Chinonso Uba has drawn a line in the sand. More principled voices must now rise.

The political supermarket must be shut down. The highest-bidder politics must die.

In 2027, let us choose sense over sentiment. Because if we don’t, we will only have ourselves to blame when the same old characters return wearing new jerseys.
