Obinwannem News The Association of Zimbabwe Doctors gave a notice to stop working immediately to protect their members

The Government has reported that 20 000 test kits and other medical supplies have been consigned. The Zimbabwean government was dealt a blow after doctors removed their care in the middle of the coronavirus outbreak at the Harare Central Hospital.

The association of doctors in the country says that personal protective equipment has not yet been provided, rendering their working conditions unsafe. Customs officials have dropped equipment at the capital’s international airport, citing health issues.

The Association of Zimbabwe Doctors gave the notice to stop working immediately in an attempt to protect their members during the pandemic, this in light of the weak economic condition in the country. The country’s health system is in tatters and was further disrupted last year by four-month-long doctors strike.

On Monday COVID-19 patients Zororo Makamba reportedly died due to a lack of sufficient medical equipment and treatment.

And at the airport-custom officers say they can’t keep putting their lives on the line. Their union says their staff is at risk particularly after going through the airport for the three successful cases.

They say that they were not given security measures when they were working there.

Meanwhile, the government has approved the consignment of 20 000 Jack Ma Foundation test kits and other medical supplies to help respond to the outbreak.

There has been concern about the ability of Zimbabwe to cope with the outbreak due to its collapsing health system in the face of the country’s dire socio-economic problems over the past two decades.
