Obinwannem News Supreme court Justice Sylvester Ngwuta is dead

Justice Sylvester Nwali Ngwuta was reported dead in the early hours of Sunday morning. He was said to have died during sleep.

Obinwannem News gathered that he was preparing for his retirement service fixed on March 30, 2021.

The cause of his death is unknown, spokesperson of the Supreme Court, Ahuruka Isah, confirmed his death in a statement.

Ahuraka said Justice Ngwuta has been sick for sometime now, and was not able to preside a case on Thursday, due to the severe illness.

“He was moved to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) on Friday. They even conducted Covid 19 test on him, but it was negative.

“We were already preparing for his valedictory service slated for March 30”.

Ngwuta was set to retire from Supreme Court on March 30, 2021, upon attaining seventy (70) years.

Ngwuta was born, 1951, in Amofia-Ukawa Onicha local government area, Ebonyi State. He started his career as a legal practitioner in July 1978 to October 1995, where he was appointed as High Court Judge in Abia, October 1995, and promoted to the Court of appeal in May 22, 2000.

Eventually, he was sworn in as Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria in May 2011.
