Obinwannem News Sit-at-home: Gunmen raids Nnewi police station, arms looted, 2 robbers killed

Nnewi Area police command were attacked by suspected gunmen on Monday, as two hoodlums suspected to be armed robbers who wanted to take advantage of the sit-at-home to rob innocent citizens were killed.

According to News available to Obinwannem, the gunmen came with about seven vehicles, in the afternoon and started shooting for about one hour.

A resident of the area, said the shooting caused pandemonium amongst the Nnewi community, adding that the gunmen overpowered the police and carted away arms.

He said by the time reinforcement from combined team of the military arrived the attackers had left.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Anambra, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu said that operatives successfully repelled the attackers who came in the vehicles.

Similarly, two persons were killed in Nnewi community, suspected to be armed robbers. The hoodlums converged at the popular Izuchukwu junction, in Nnewi at about 4am, and mounted road blocks while robbing passersby in the process.

Soldiers stormed the area to dislodge them, two hoodlums was killed, and others escaped with sustained bullet injuries.

Meanwhile, reports reveals that civil servants in the state reported to duty in line with the directive of Governor Willie Obiano.

The Governor, earlier threatened for salary cut for failure to work on Monday.

Consequently, workers only went to their offices, registered their names and immediately disappeared.
