SIM card vs NIN: FG extends registration, issues new deadline

Obinwannem News SIM card vs NIN: FG extends registration, issues new deadline

Towards the end of last year, the federal government of Nigeria, backed by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) had launched ‘compulsory’ registration and synchronisation of every phone user’s SIM card(s) with their National Identification Number (NIN).

The deadline had been shifted from December 30, 2020 to January 19, 2021. But, due to infrastructural hiccups, and network challenges experienced by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) – the body responsible for the NIN registration – it appears that a myriad of citizens and telecommunications users are yet to register and/or link their NIN online.

Consequently, the NIMC has issued a new deadline, February 9, 2021, for Nigerians to register and link their National Identification Number (NIN) to their SIM cards.

This information was posted on the official Twitter handle of the NIMC (@nimc_ng)

The tweet reads: “All Nigerians and legal residents are advised to enroll for their national identification number (NIN) and link them before February 9th, 2021.

“Enroll for your national identification NUMBER (NIN) today!!!. Please remember, NIN enrollment is FREE.”
