Despite several unsuccessful attempt by the Senate to get the CBN officials to appear before it, to give accurate accounts of the disappearance of $9.5m, the Senate has decided to give a 3-days ultimatum to the CBN Governor, Godwin Emeifele to ratify the missing funds.
The bidding was sequel to the consideration of a report by Auditor General for the Federation (AUGF), which probed the expenses of federal agencies.
The AUGF report partly reads, “During the examination of transfers to foreign Excess PPT/Royalty and Foreign Excess Crude Accounts, it was observed that during the year 2016, the amount totaling $6m and 3.5m were credited to the foreign PPT/Royalty and Foreign Excess Crude Account as interest on funds investments.
“Records made available for audit further revealed that the balance in the foreign Excess Crude Account as at 28th December 2016 were $0.00& $251,826 respectively.”
The chairman of the Senate pane, l Matthew Urhoghide, said they were issues the CBN governor needed to respond; to corroborate some statements of account.
He said Emeifele has till Thursday this week to appear, and address those issues before the committee.
