Presidency, not the solution to Igbo problems – Alex Otti

Obinwannem News Presidency, not the solution to Igbo problems - Alex Otti

Two time governorship candidate of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), and former group managing director of Diamond Bank Plc, Dr Alex Otti, from Abia State, has given speculations that presidency would not alleviate the problems of the Igbo peolle; insisting that some fundamental problems should be resolved “to establish an egalitarian society”.

Dr Alex disclosed this in an interview. He noted that unless poverty be addressed, the insecurity challenges would still persist in the country.

He said, “A situation where close to 90 million people, representing 43 percent of our population, live below the poverty line of less than $1.90 per day; that makes the country a veritable candidate for insecurity of the highest order”.

He also explained why Diamond Bank was acquired, faulting his successor of dismantling the bank strategies, thereby making the acquisition inevitable.

On Igbo presidency and how this could become a reality, he responded, “If you have followed my politics, you would realize that I do not believe in primordial sentiment. I believe that tribe and religion are basically smokescreen about power shift have remained the fulcrum of our politics in Nigeria, that is not to say that our salvation is going to come from that given”.

Basically, for Igbo presidency to be actualized, it has to move to the southeast, since the north had held it for two terms, he added.

Would that solve the problem of Nigeria? “I think not, there are some fundamental structural problems that must be dealt with for an egalitarian society to be institutionalized,” he said.
