Oil Palm Yield per Hectare

The production of fresh fruit bunches (FFB) and crude palm oil (CPO) per hectare varies according to tree age, soil quality, climate, farming practices, and oil palm species. Here are some general figures:

1. FFB yield per hectare
a. Young Plantation (3–5 years old): 10-15 tons of FFB per hectare per year.
b. Mature Plantation (6-10 years old): Approximately 20-25 tons of FFB per hectare annually.
c. Optimally Managed Plantation (10-30 years old): Yields typically range between 25 and 35 tons of FFB per hectare per year, but they can be greater with optimal practices.

2. CPO Yield Per Hectare (per Ton of FFB): Oil palm mills typically generate 18-24% crude palm oil from FFB. This proportion varies based on mill efficiency and FFB quality.
For example, if a plantation generates 25 tons of FFB per hectare, it can produce around 5-6 tons of crude palm oil (CPO) per hectare each year.
Annual Yield Estimates:
FFB Yield: 20-35 tons per hectare per year (mature plantations).
CPO Yield: 5–7 tons per hectare per year.

NOTE: A ton of palm oil costs approximately 2.5 million Naira.
Maximizing yield.
To boost FFB and CPO yield, choose high-yielding and disease-resistant types like Tenera hybrid F1 and Supergene.
2. Use the best fertilizer and watering procedures.
3. Follow good farm management procedures (pruning, pest control, etc.).
3. Use effective harvesting and processing processes to reduce waste.
