Ohanaeze Ndigbo Condemns Viral Video Calling for Igbo People to Poison Yoruba, Edo People

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo, a leading Igbo socio-cultural organization, has strongly condemned a viral video clip that calls for the poisoning of Yoruba and Edo people. The organization described the video as a “macabre dance” and urged security agencies to trace and bring the perpetrators to justice.

In a statement signed by National Publicity Secretary Dr Alex Ogbonnia, Ohanaeze Ndigbo dismissed the video as the work of a “deranged psychopath” but expressed concern about the potential for some individuals to carry out the threats. The organization emphasized that the video’s message is antithetical to the values of peace, harmony, and mutual respect that the Igbo people hold dear.

The video, which has been circulating on social media, features a woman identified as Amaka Patience Sunnberger calling for the mass poisoning of Yoruba and Edo people. Ohanaeze Ndigbo noted that there is no sufficient evidence to confirm the woman’s ethnicity, but emphasized that her actions do not represent the Igbo people’s character.

Ohanaeze Ndigbo reminded the public that the Igbo, Edo, and Yoruba people share a long history of cultural affinity, cosmology, morphology, and hospitality. The organization highlighted the numerous inter-marriages and notable historical events that exemplify the fraternity and camaraderie between the groups.

The organization’s Secretary General, Ambassador Okey Emuchay, also condemned the video, describing the perpetrator as a “mischief-maker” who seeks to create ethnic mistrust and conflict. Ohanaeze Ndigbo assured the Afenifere, Yoruba, and Edo people that the threat should be ignored as “idiotic, meaningless, and vacuous” and called on security agencies to take action against the perpetrators.

Ohanaeze Ndigbo further emphasized that the Igbo people are known for their peaceful and accommodating nature and that the video’s message is a clear deviation from these values. The organization urged the public to disregard the video’s message and work towards building a united and prosperous nation.

In addition, Ohanaeze Ndigbo called on social media platforms to take responsibility for monitoring and removing harmful content that promotes violence and ethnic hatred. The organization also urged the government to take concrete steps to address the rising tide of ethnic tensions and promote national unity.

Ohanaeze Ndigbo reiterated its commitment to promoting peace, harmony, and mutual respect among all ethnic groups in Nigeria. The organization urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities. By working together, Ohanaeze Ndigbo believes that Nigeria can overcome the challenges of ethnic division and build a brighter future for all.
