The Ogun State Police is currently investigating the Ogun state commissioner for environment, Abiodun Abdul Balogun who was earlier accused of rape by sixteen years old Barakat Melojuekun.

The Young girl claimed the commissioner raped her, an event which probably occurred at Ita otu, Ogun waterside local government area of the state.

According to the victim miss Barakat Melojuekun, the ungodly harassment happened on the 31st of December 2020 in the apartment of the commissioner of environment, she however disclosed that the commissioner fondled her breast and muttered some incantation while she screamed and struggled to free herself from his unflinching grip.

The victim in a confession to the Abigi police division said the commissioner’s aides tricked her into the commissioner’s house and then his bedroom before the commissioner came in and locked the door.

The commissioner has however denied all such allegations noting emphatically that they are all lies and a plot by his enemies to bring him down, he further stated that the allegations were an attempt by his political enemies to blackmail him.

However the family of the girl came out on Monday and requested that the case be dropped, the father of the girl appeared in a video on Monday and stated that they will be withdrawing the case while advising Nigerians to allow the matter to rest. The reason for his sudden change of heart is however unknown.

Reacting to the request, the Ogun state police public relations officer Abimbola Oyeyemi says the case can’t be withdrawn, in an interview the officer said, neither the victim nor her father could withdraw the case at this point.

He said that whether Bakarat and her father is interested in the case or not that the police must get to the root of the matter. In his own words he said “whether the girl and her father are interested in the case or not is not our own business, it is not their own prerogative to say they are not interested.

“The father has no right to withdraw the case because he’s not the direct victim. “The girl herself is not capable of withdrawing the case, whether they are interested or not we must get to the root of the matter” he said.

The girl and her father appeared on separate Facebook videos on Monday and appealed to Nigerians to let sleeping dogs lie, stating that they have taken the decision not to further the case with the police anymore.
