Nnamdi Kanu’s Detention Will Bring Calamity to Those Involved, IPOB Leader’s Lawyer Warns

"Ejimakor Cautions Nigerian Government, Draws Parallel with Buhari's Past, Says Prolonged Incarceration Will Have Far-Reaching Consequences"

Aloy Ejimakor, the lawyer representing Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has issued a stern warning to those involved in his client’s ongoing detention. Ejimakor cautioned that Kanu’s continued incarceration would bring woes to those responsible, drawing parallels with the past experiences of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Ejimakor’s statement comes as Kanu’s detention extends beyond a year, sparking widespread criticism and calls for his release. The IPOB leader has been held since June 2021, facing charges of treason and terrorism.

The lawyer’s warning is seen as a veiled reference to the challenges faced by President Buhari during his own period of detention in the 1980s. Buhari was jailed for several years following a military coup but later became President of Nigeria.

Ejimakor’s statement has generated mixed reactions, with some viewing it as a thinly veiled threat and others seeing it as a call for justice and accountability.

The Nigerian government has yet to respond to Ejimakor’s warning, but the development is expected to further fuel the ongoing debate around Kanu’s detention and the IPOB’s push for Biafran independence.
