Nigerian Government Seeks Extradition of Simon Ekpa Over Biafra Map Declaration
Abuja, Nigeria – The Nigerian government has initiated moves to extradite Simon Ekpa, a self-proclaimed Biafra Prime Minister, through the European Union (EU). This development comes after Ekpa announced plans to unveil a map of the Biafra Republic on December 2, 2024.
Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, confirmed the government’s efforts to extradite Ekpa during a press briefing in Abuja on Tuesday. Buba stated that the Nigerian government would respond appropriately to Ekpa’s actions through diplomatic channels with the EU.
Ekpa, who is based in Finland, has been a vocal advocate for the secession of the southeastern region of Nigeria, known as Biafra. His recent announcement of a map presentation and declaration of the Biafra Republic has sparked concerns among Nigerian authorities.
The Nigerian government has consistently maintained that it will not tolerate any form of secession or declaration of independence by any group or individual. The extradition of Simon Ekpa would be a significant step in preventing the actualization of his Biafra agenda.
