NDC Convention in Abuja, a Turning Point for Nigeria, Says Akataka as He Returns Home To a Rousing Reception by Party Faithful

The recently concluded National Convention of the Nigeria Democratic Congress in Abuja has been hailed as a watershed moment in Nigeria’s political history, with party leaders and delegates describing it as peaceful, credible, and the most significant step yet toward rescuing the country from misrule.

At the heart of the convention was a decision that has electrified the nation’s political landscape: the zoning of the presidency to the South. For millions of Nigerians who have watched the North-South power balance shape the nation’s destiny, the move was not just strategic, it was a declaration that equity and fairness must return to the heart of Nigerian politics.

“The zoning of the presidency to the South is a game changer,” said Nze Charles Asika Agoh, (Akataka 1), who participated in the event. “It is a welcome development to all well-meaning Nigerians who believe in justice, inclusion, and national unity.” Unlike the rancorous political gatherings Nigerians have grown used to, the NDC convention in Abuja stood out for its order, maturity, and focus. Delegates from all 36 states and the FCT converged under one roof, debated with candour, and emerged more united than they arrived.

“The atmosphere was electric, but controlled,” Akataka recounted to a crowd of jubilant party faithful who received him on arrival over the weekend. “No shouting matches, no thuggery, no compromise of process. For the first time in a long while, Nigerians saw what a political party convention should look like — peaceful, transparent, and successful.”

According to Agoh, the convention ratified key resolutions on party structure, adopted a progressive manifesto, and consolidated the leadership of the party around the vision of a new Nigeria. Akataka painted a vivid picture of the Abuja convention and its implications for the South East and Nigeria at large.

“What I saw in Abuja gives me hope,”
“What I saw in Abuja gives me hope,”

“What I saw in Abuja gives me hope,” he said. “I saw men and women who have put Nigeria above personal interest. I saw leaders who understand that if we do not come together now, there may be no Nigeria left to fight for in 2027.”

He therfore urged Ndigbo and all Nigerians to rally behind the leadership of former Anambra State Governor Mr. Peter Obi and former Kano Governor, Engineer Rabiu Kwankwaso, describing the duo as the best hope for national recovery.

“This is not the time for division, for sentiment, or for sitting on the fence,” he said. “Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso represent competence, integrity, and the will to confront Nigeria’s demons. If we support them, if we stand behind the NDC platform, we can end the insecurity, corruption, and economic crisis that have crippled this country under the APC.”

His voice grew firmer as he warned of the consequences of another APC term.“The level of corruption, the insecurity, profligacy and economic downturn in the country will reach an alarming proportion if the present APC government continues in power beyond 2027,” he declared. “Nigeria cannot survive another four years of this. That is why the NDC convention mattered. That is why we must all get involved.”

In a special message to his NDC members, Akataka admonished them to close ranks, shun petty rivalries, and work in unison with the national leadership of the NDC. “From the ward to the national level, we must speak with one voice,” he said. “The hierarchy of the NDC has shown leadership. It is now our duty at the grassroots to match that leadership with loyalty, discipline, and action. No more backbiting. No more sabotage. The task before us is bigger than any of us.”

He thanked the members for their unwavering support and assured them that the South East would not be sidelined in the new political arrangement. “The South has been given a chance. Ndigbo must seize it with wisdom and unity. Our time to lead, to build, and to restore Nigeria is now.”

A NEW NIGERIA IS POSSIBLE.

A NEW OWERRI IS POSSIBLE.

Akataka is COMING.
