The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued stern warnings regarding the widespread of fake coronavirus vaccines in the country.
NAFDAC’s Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, in a webinar meeting with journalists on Friday, said there are reports of COVID-19 vaccine(s) in Nigeria, he further noted that, no vaccine has been approved by the agency momentarily.
According to NAFDAC, “No COVID vaccines has been approved,” she said. “Fake vaccines can cause coronavirus-like illness, or other serious disease that could kill”.
On Thursday, the NCDC confirmed 23 new deaths, following 105,478 new cases. Death rates topped 1,405; and 83,830 patients were discharged across the 36 states including FCT.
According to one report, a black market for fake vaccines emerged online, with dubious means of ripping people’s money.
Recently, the agency appointed a committee on COVID-19 vaccine, giving them mandate to develop appropriate guidelines and guidance for the vaccines.
