Midnight Blaze Ravages Lagos Staff Quarters: Electrical Surge Sparks Devastating Fire in Ogba
In the stillness of early Friday morning, disaster struck as flames tore through part of the Lagos State Government Staff Quarters on Odunsanmi Street, off WEMPCO Road in Ogba. The fire erupted at approximately 2:20 am, ripping through a two-bedroom apartment in Flat 5, Block 21, within the three-story building complex.
Preliminary findings from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) reveal that the inferno was ignited by an electrical surge originating in the children’s room. The fire swiftly consumed the room, leading to the destruction of properties worth millions of naira.
Dr Femi Oke-Osanyitolu, LASEMA’s Permanent Secretary, praised the rapid response of the Lagos Response Team (LRT), the Nigerian Police Force, and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, whose coordinated efforts successfully contained the fire before it could spread to other apartments.
“Thankfully, no lives were lost, and there were no injuries,” Dr. Oke-Osanyitolu confirmed. “Our team also used this opportunity to educate residents on the safe use of electrical appliances to prevent similar incidents in the future.”
By 5:00 am, emergency personnel remained on-site, ensuring the area was secure and the situation fully under control.
