Address to the Igbo Youth Council, Onitsha South Local Government Chapter by Mazi Ugwu Okechukwu.
Ladies and gentlemen, esteemed leaders, and fellow members,
I stand before you today with a heavy heart, compelled to address the disturbing video circulating online, showcasing the brutal violence inflicted upon innocent boys by a group of young men And a lot of disturbing pictures and videos coming on NYCN Onitsha South LG since I was added in the group by comrade Chimezie Ejekam (Aguta-Oraeke).
As the CEO of Obinwannem and a strong advocate for the Igbo Youth Council’s slogan “Build the youths, Build the nation,” I am disheartened by our collective inaction and lack of leadership.
We claim to prioritize the well-being of our youths, yet we fail to take concrete steps towards their protection and development. Our WhatsApp group, intended to facilitate communication and coordination, lacks rules and regulations, rendering it ineffective. I urge the leaders and executives to establish a clear framework for our group’s operations and inform members of our purpose and objectives.
We pride ourselves on the slogan “Build the youths, Build the nation,” but our actions contradict this mantra. We neglect our own, allowing suffering and injustice to persist. The recent video serves as a stark reminder of our failures. We must utilize the media to bring attention to these issues, as the government often neglects our region.
I implore the group executive to write a letter to the government, condemning the brutality we witnessed. We must uphold the rule of law, as seen in Western societies, and reject jungle justice. Our people deserve better. We must do better.
I question the role of the National Youth Council Leader in Onitsha South and urge them to take concrete steps towards addressing these issues. We can and must do more to end insecurity in our land.
Let us work together to build a better future for our youths and nation. Let us uphold the true meaning of our slogan and take action to protect and empower our people.
Thank you.
Mazi Ugwu Okechukwu,
The Chief Executive Officer,
Obinwannem Foundation Worldwide,
