MAZI NNAMDI KANU UPDATE: BARR. MAXWELL OPARA’S VISIT REVEALS DENIAL OF BASIC TOOLS FOR APPEAL (Commentary by Mazi Ugwu Okechukwu – January 12, 2026).

As Mazi Ugwu Okechukwu, one who has always spoken from the heart for our people’s dignity and the truth of our struggle, let me say this straight, no fancy words, no robot talk, just plain fire as an Igbo son feels it.

This update from Barr. Maxwell Opara hits hard. He went all the way to Sokoto on 11th January 2026, saw our brother Mazi Nnamdi Kanu face to face, and came back telling us the naked truth: they have locked him up, sentenced him, shipped him far from home, and now they’re even denying him a simple laptop or printer to prepare his own appeal. Hard copies of legal papers are there, contributions from good lawyers and consultants are ready, but how can one man piece it all together properly without tools? It’s like tying a man’s hands behind his back and telling him to fight for his life.

This is not justice, my people. This is wickedness dressed in law. They call it security, but it’s designed to kill his chance at appeal. The man is doing everything himself now, no lawyers in court because he pulled them out, and still they block the basic things he needs. Fair hearing? What fair hearing when you remove the pen and paper from the writer’s hand?

I feel the pain deep. Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has carried our cry for years, through rendition, torture, fake trials, life sentence, and now this. Sokoto prison is far, family can’t reach easy, support is hard, and on top of it, no device to work. It’s deliberate suffocation.

Barr. Opara said they’re planning to challenge it again in court, and with that January 27 hearing on transfer coming, we must push hard. Demand they give him access to what he needs, laptop under supervision if they fear, printer, whatever, to file properly. Relocate him closer where real help can reach. Anything less is continued torture.

To all lovers of freedom, especially my Igbo brothers and sisters: don’t sleep on this. Share the update, pray, call out the authorities, support every legal move. Mazi Nnamdi is not alone in chains; our hope for justice is chained with him. If they break his wings, we all feel the fall.
