Thousands of Imolites have taken over the capital city, Owerri, in protest against the judgment of the Supreme Court on the Imo State Governorship election of March 9, 2019.
Ihedioha, a former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives and governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the 2019 election was sacked by a panel of Supreme Court Justices headed by Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, on technical grounds, while Hope Uzodinma was declared the winner.
Massive protests have since erupted and ongoing for the second day in a row with a large turnout of men and women all dressed in black.
Some of the protesters had banners and flyers, with different inscriptions; “We know who we voted for”, “Uzodinma should vacate Imo, government house”, “Tanko must pack and go”, among many others.
