Obinwannem News Many feared dead as soldiers dislodge 'hoodlums' in Akwa Ibom airstrike

Nigerian military, via air raids, invaded a community in Akwa Ibom State over recent attacks on police facilities, and alleged killings of some policemen in the State; resulting to death of many people.

The military operation was conducted in Ntak Ikot-Akpan community, Essien Udim local government area of Akwa Ibom on Tuesday.

The army carried out aerial bombardment in the community, where the thugs who attacked and killed some police officers were said to have come from.

It was reported last week that, three policemen were killed, while four were missing in the area.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian army said on Wednesday that those killed during the military operations were ‘hoodlums’. It did not, however, mention the number of persons killed in the operation.

Confirming the incident, Brigadier General Mohammed Yerima, the Army spokesman, said in a statement, “the operation was successfully executed, and resulted in the dislodgement of the criminals; while fleeing hoodlums were neutralized by the air Component”.

He added that normalcy has been restored in the area, and people are now free to move about their business.

However, the identity of those behind the attack on the security agents, and why they did it, remained undisclosed as of the time of filing this report.
