Embattled transitional president of Mali, Bah Ndaw, and the Prime Minister, Moctar Ouane, has reportedly resigned. This has plunged Mali into a state of instability.

The two leaders tendered their resignation Wednesday, while in detention.

Recall, on Monday, both leaders where detained by the military, and moved to Kati military base. Obinwannem News made a report on, “Mali’s interim president, Bah Ndaw, detained by millitary”.

The UN, the African Union, and other international bodies urged Mali’s military to release the transitional leaders.

According to confirmed reports, interim president Bah N’Daw, dismissed the Prime Minister, Moctar Ouane, on Wednesday, before handing his own resignation letter to the Transitional Vice President, Col Assimi Goita, who led the 2020 coup, according to a military official a West African diplomat. The resignation was substantiated as both spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not permitted to speak to the press on the subject.

No reason has been stated, on why the two leaders are being held.

On Tuesday, Clolonel Goita took control of Mali, said he had deposed the president and Prime Minister, because they had formed a new government without consulting him. The two were arrested on Monday, by the millitary hours after naming a new cabinet, that did not include, the two former junta leaders.

Nonetheless, International mediation with Mali’s military, led by the former president of Nigeria, President Goodluck Jonathan, of the West African regional body known as ECOWAS, began Tuesday, and stretched into Wednesday, at Kati military camp, outside the capital, Bamako, where the deposed leaders have been held.

The International community has condemned the detention of the transitional leaders, with the French President, Emmanuel Macron, describing it as a coup and warning of repercussions, including targeted sanctions.
