The chairman of the panel, Prof. Josiah Sabo-Kente, who addressed journalists in Jalingo on Thursday, said the university operated a poor accounting system since its inception in 2008. He added that the university was being operated below the minimum standards of the National Universities Commission. The panel, therefore, recommended a total overhaul of the university system.

5 . Vice President Kashim Shettima on Thursday said President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms of the past year “saved the life of the nation”. He described them as necessary given the poor state of Nigeria when he assumed office on May 29, 2023. “His Excellency, President Bola Tinubu, chose the option that will save the life of the nation instead of one that will merely prolong its imminent and predicted economic death,” said Shettima when he appeared as the guest speaker at the Second Chronicle Roundtable in Abuja.

6.. A hydroelectric dam has collapsed in southern Brazil after days of heavy rains that triggered massive flooding, killing more than 30 people. Master Sgt Roman Naumov, who is currently serving in the Ukrainian Army, took up photography professionally in 2015. He has been deployed in eastern Ukraine since February. The exhibition called Pain and Struggle, which is being shown in Norwich, showcases more than 130 photographs showing the impact the war has had on Ukrainians and their communities.

8. Kenya orders flood evacuations as it warns dams could spill. The Kenyan government has ordered people living near 178 dams and reservoirs to evacuate as heavy rains continue. The interior ministry warned that the water bodies “have filled up or are nearly filled up and may spill over any time, posing a high risk to persons living in their neighbourhood”.
