Report from Real Madrid has it that Bayern Munich star striker Robert Lewandowski has been on Real Madrid’s radar for years now. Madrid’s pursuit of Lewandowski is hinged on the availability of Kylian Mbappé and Erling Haaland in the summer.
Mbappé, whose contract with Paris Saint-Germain expires in 2022, remains Los Blancos’ numero uno transfer target. However, PSG’s management will not let the Frenchman leave for cheap, which could force Madrid to make an attempt next year, when he will become a free agent.
After Mbappé, Madrid could shift their focus on acquiring wonderkid striker Erling Haaland, who was originally in their plans for next season. However, Dortmund have allegedly slapped a huge asking price on the 20-year-old (most recent report mentioning a figure around €175 million), making him unattainable for the Madridistas.
With both Mbappé and Haaland unavailable due to their high transfer fees, the Spanish giants could target Robert Lewandowski as a fallback option:
The Pole, who is ready to leave Bayern Munich this summer, is an old desire of the white directive, which could get it at a very good price considering that the player wants to leave. He is a veteran (32) years old, which, theoretically, would make his adaptation easier. However, Madrid will have to fight with the Bavarian side, who do not intend to let go of their main star.
Along with Lewandowski, Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling and Tottenham’s Harry Kane are also on the watch list of president Florentino Pérez.
