Members of the National Assembly aides on Tuesday, staged a peaceful protest at the lobby of the complex demanding payment of outstanding arrears of salaries.

The angry aides, started chanting solidarity songs on spotting the Speaker of House, Femi Gbajabiamila, who was on his way to the chambers. The Speaker stopped on seeing the protesters, to attend to their request.

The chairman, National Assembly Legislative Aides Forum(NASSLAF), comrade Salisu Zuru, presented the written demands of the group to the Speaker.

These include the implementation of the Consolidated Legislative Salary Structure CONLESS, payment of the duty tour allowance, condition of service and implementation of minimum wage.

The Speaker, on receiving the letter of demand, said it was “inexcusable” not to pay workers arrears dared back 2019.

He said, “I believe that every laborer should be paid his wages. We are looking into it, while these things can be protracted not paying wages is inexcusable.

“We will look into it, I will just ask you to be patient, we plead for your understanding. We know there are financial constraints, but one thing I know is this will be resolved amicably and your arrears will be paid.

“uWe appreciate you for bringing these demand to our attention, and we will attend to it accordingly”.
