The parents of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), His Royal Majesty, late Eze Israel Okwu Kanu and Her Royal Majesty, late Ugoeze Sally Okwu Kanu were finally laid to rest on Friday, 14th February 2020 in their home town Isiama Afaraukwu Ibeku, Umuahia, Abia State.
The funeral was one of a tsunami, recording the presence of great multitude from all works of life.
In attendance were various traditional rulers from different clans in the old eastern region.
The traditional rulers who identified themselves as ‘Ndi Eze Old Eastern Region’ told Obinwannem news that they had given Mazi Nnamdi Kanu the title ‘Ihie Nke Africa’, which means ‘the light of Africa’.
They include HRM, Eze Dr Lt. Gideon Ejike of Imo state, HRM, Eze Okwuloka Lawrence Nnabo Of Ninbo, HRM, Eze Cornel Issac Akabuogu of Awka, HRM, Eze Amadi Prince Onyemauchechukwu of Etche Rivers State, HRM, Eze Royal Majesty J.E Eji from Calabar, HRM, Eze Bright Biabi of Ogoni land, HRM, Aminiabong Enem Benedict Edoh of Akwa Ibom State, and so many others also told Obinwannem news correspondents that they were in support of Biafra and in support of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s ideology of emancipation.
Speaking to the press, HRM, Eze Dr Lt. Gideon Ejike of Imo state, the leader of the Royal group, stated that the reason they were present is to condole with the family of their fellow king who had left the family to the underworld.
He also noted that the presence of kings from other tribes of Biafra which includes Ijaw, Agbor, Bayelsa etc is proof that the old eastern region is one indivisible people.
Also, in attendance were Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor IPOB & Nnamdi Kanu lawyer, former governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, Senator Victor Umeh and other government officials.
The ceremony began with the arrival of the deceased to the compound, then to the Local government headquarters and then to the market square.
Also, to fulfil the religious rites, they were taken to St Anthony Catholic Church where HRM Eze Israel Okwu Kanu is crowned a knight officer.
Afterwards, they were taken back to their compound where they were laid peacefully into the ground.
Obinwannem news reports the heavy presence of the various Nigerian security agencies, however, there were no recordings of attack within the funeral ground.
Notwithstanding, Obinwannem news correspondents were informed that two coastal busses conveying mourners were hijacked by the Nigerian Army at Isiala Ngwa junction, along the Enugu Port Harcourt expressway.
Over fifty people who were headed to Isiama Afaraukwu were detained. No word of their condition at the time of filing this report.
