Obinwannem News Just in: Police storms Yoruba's 'self determination' rally in Ibadan

The scheduled mega rally planned by a group, towards Yoruba’s struggle for self-determination, Saturday, in Ibadan, was disrupted by armed policemen.

It was gathered that scores of police officers took over the Mapo ancient hall venue of the intended rally.

It was also observed that at about 9:30am, the policemen stopped and searched individuals who were going to their business along the road linking the hall.

Some Nigerians were seen inside a Toyota Camry, shouting, “Yoruba Nation is inevitable,” while the policemen watched.

The invitation sent to Sahara Reporters for the event had indicated that the rally was to commence at 9am.

The invitation reads, “Reminder, Attention Editors, Producers, Correspondents and Reporters:

“Invitation to Yoruba nations mega rally for self-determination to be led by Emeritus Professor Banji Akintoye on Saturday.

“The convergence point is Mapo Hall, Ibadan Oyo State and time is 9am. There will be a world pre-conference by South and Middle Belt leader by 1pm at Ajajung bade Avenue, New Bodija Ibadan”.

The rally was powered by a group, ‘Ilana Omo Oodua’ .

As of the time of filing the report, the convener of the rally Prof Banji Akintoye could not be reached.
