Obinwannem News Just in: Femi Falana moves to stop Nigerian Army’s operation identification

The recent exercise by the Nigerian Army termed “Operation Positive Identification” OPI may not hold, as Femi Falana makes controversial moves to stop it.

The operation was said to be carried out nationwide where citizens of the country would be asked to identify themselves before the army.

Following this disturbing request, the Nigerian citizen’s nationwide had expressed depression over the yet to commence operation.

However, Tukur Buratai, the Chief of Army Staff (CAS), on Thursday, October 31, revealed why the proposed Operation Positive Identification (OPI) would not hinder the day-to-day activities of Nigerians.

In reaction, Femi Falana, one of the Nigerian respected SANs, had recently approached the court challenging the constitutional powers of the Army to embark on such operation.

The human rights lawyer has stressed that the move by the Army is a breach of the rights of Nigerians to move around the country without being subjected to harassment.

Hence, in its ruling, the court orders both parties to maintain status as following the Vanguard reports.

The court consequently adjourns the case to November 18, 2019, for a proper hearing in the suit.

However, the Army General Buratai has earlier stated that the Army had submitted a detailed report on the OPI to the committee. This was made known during a fielding questions from the House of Representatives committee on Army in Abuja and was represented by the chief of civil-military affairs, Maj.-Gen. Usman Muhammed.
