The Imo State executive council, in accordance with the provision and recommendation of the ‘White Paper’ on land use and related matters, has recovered the Eastern University claimed by the former governor of Imo state Rochas Okorocha.

According to White Paper, the Eastern Palm university was accredited by National University Commission (NUC) as the second State university owned by Imo state.

Speaking on the recovery of the controversial university, the governor of Imo state, Hope uzodinma noted that, “The essence of recovery is not an act of witch hunt or to disparage the person or group of persons involved, but often it goes a long way to show how responsible and responsive the government of the day is when it comes to issues affecting the state and especially when it has to do with the Commonwealth of the people.”

The Eastern palm university was built and equipped during the tenure of Rochas Okorocha as the government of Imo State. The former governor had made claims the university was a private university and not State owned.

A panel was constructed to look into the ownership of the university; the panel, following its proceedings, ruled that the university “belongs to the State,” instead of the former governor. Hence, the Uzodinma’s bold step to reclaim it.

The said university has been under lock until the decision of the panel, and the leadership of Imo State.
