The Government of Imo State laid allegations against the former Governor, Rochas Okorocha, as being responsible for the recent attacks on State-owned facilities in Owerri capital city.

This was confirmed by Sahara Reporters in a statement released by the State Commissioner of Information, Declan Emelumba.

The Commissioner alleged that Okorocha “employed hoodlums” whom he granted amnesty to unleash violence in the State.

According to him, an information on how a Special Adviser to the former governor procured the thugs that invaded Owerri on Monday April 5, attacking the State Police Headquarters as well as Owerri Correctional Centre, were already in government possession.

Emelumba said, the purpose of the attacks by the former governor was to cause the State to be troubled that the federal government will be forced to declare a state of emergency.

He alleged that the former governor wants to get back to the Governor Hope Uzodinma, for insisting on the implementation of the white paper that indicted him for looting the state and grabbing people’s lands, when he [Okorocha] served as governor of the State.

Emelumba said, “Recall that the man had gone to court to stop the Commissioner from sitting; when he failed, he approached Governor Uzodinma to disband the panels.

” When that failed, he resorted to violence to reposses property government had sealed. That is the motive of the attack.”

He added that it was not a coincidence that the former governor had not condemned the attacks.

“How come the former governor is not condemning the attacks, if not because, it is his brain child,” the statement added.
