The video assistant referee took a controversial decision which would have affected Manchester United in UEFA Champions League this season. The red devils played against Atalanta in their week 3 encounter at Old Trafford on Wednesday night.
The visitors took an early lead through a controversial goal which was supposed to be cancelled for an offside. 14 minutes later, Atalanta increased the goal tally to two. The red devils managed to finish the first half with two goals behind.
Marcus Rashford restores Manchester United hope with a goal at 53 minutes while Harry Maguire scores the second goal for the red devils. Cristiano Ronaldo scored the winning goal with a powerful header which was assisted by Luke Shaw.
The most Controversial moment in the match was when VAR allowed the Atalanta first goal to stand. Mario Pasalic converted a well crossed ball from David’s Zappacosta to a goal. Mario Pasalic was clearly in an offside position, but the center referee decided to allow the goal to stand.
Manchester United lost their match against Young Boys because of poor controversial decisions from center referee. He sent Wan Bissaka off the pitch without consulting the video assistant referee.
The center referee who in charge of the match between Manchester United Vs Atalanta repeated another costly mistake which would have affected the red devils in their group stage matches.
Before the match, Manchester United was placed third on group F table. Atalanta and Young Boys were ahead of the red devils. A win against Atalanta placed them first on the group F table.
VAR and Center Referee decision to allow the goal, gave Atalanta an opportunity to climb on top of the group.
It would have been hard for Manchester United to win the match if not for the pressure mounted on them during second half.
It would have been very difficult for Manchester United to qualify from the group stage if Atalanta succeeded in winning them at old Trafford.
