Obinwannem News Hoodlums raid Imo prison, free hundreds of inmates

The Correctional facility in Owerri, Imo State was raided by unknown gunmen Monday morning; freed about 1500 inmates.

Obinwannem News gathered the incident took place at midnight; till around 3am. About 30 vehicles parked at the command headquarters was set ablaze.

The raid let to a break loose of a huge number of inmates, counting in hundreds; in almost all the cells at the State Criminal Investigation Department of the Command.

They sang solidatry songs at the government house round for about 30minutes before attacking the facility, a source confirmed.

They broke into the prison with the aid of explosive and dynamite. The attackers told the inmates to “go home”.

Meanwhile, the police spokesperson, Orlando Ikeokwu confirmed the attacks. He assured the people of the State that security agencies were on top of the issues.
