Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and (2021) Anambra governorship aspirant of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), was said to have escaped assisination attack yesterday from unknown gunmen, in his hometown, Isuofia, Aguata local government area, Anambra State.
Soludo was reportedly whisked away; whereas, three policemen attached to him, were confirmed dead, and their weapon taken away by the gunmen. In addition, of the Commissioner for Public Utilities, Mr Emeka Ezenwanne was ostensibly abducted.
According to News made available to Obinwannem, the governorship aspirant was attacked during an interactive session between him and Isuofia youths. The attack led to a serious stampede in Afuzo area of Isuofia.
Hon Pauly Onyeka, an aide to Soludo, a former member of the Anambra State Assembly, affirmed that he was safe and in an undisclosed location, after he was whisked out of the venue of the event.
Soludo, later confirmed the incident. He said, he was delivering a lecture to about 1000 youths when the attackers struck. He spoke for about 45 minutes, and was about to round off his lectures, when he heard gunshots outside the Civic hall venue.
He said he escaped unhurt when the stampede ensued.
No civilian casualties were recorded, only bruises, injuries and shock.
