It was an honour for me to host today’s gathering of the South-East Governors in Enugwu. My brother governors and I discussed issues concerning our region and issued this statement after our meeting.
COMMUNIQUE ISSUED TODAY, JULY 2, 2024 BY THE SOUTH EAST GOVERNORS’ FORUM.
1. The Forum expressed condolences to the governments and people of Abia, Ebonyi, and Imo states in South East Nigeria and Chief Ogbonnaya Onu’s family on the death of His Excellency, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu.
2. Former President Chief Olusegun Obasanjo GCFR, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, GCON, and His Royal Majesty Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe CFR, Obi of Onitsha, paid a solidarity visit to the Forum.
3. The Forum deliberated on the reviewed report of the South East Security and Economic Summit, which was held in Owerri on September 28, 2023, and agreed to implement the aspects of the report about security and economic integration, as well as to put actionable plans in place on the key issues agreed upon.
4. The Forum agreed to meet with Mr. President to discuss important concerns affecting the South East Region.
5. The Forum also determined to work with the federal government to seek Mr. Nnamdi Kanu’s release.
