No fewer than five policemen has been confirmed dead, following the invasion of suspected hoodlums, who attacked the Iwollo Police Division in Ezeagu, Local Government Area, Enugu State, early hours on Tuesday. Operational vehicles were also razed.

The incident was partly confirmed by the Commissioner of Police, Mr Mohammed Aliyu, in a telephone interview, with News Agency of Nigeria.

Aliyu, who could not give account of what transpired, said he was already at the scene of the incident, to ascertain the level of damage and casualties.

He said, “More information would be pushed out to the public as soon as we conclude our preliminary investigation.”

Notably, an eyewitness who confirmed the attack said the hoodlums were numerous, and in the wee hours; adding that, it caused lots of fear and panic, throughout the entire Iwollo community.

“They succeeded in completly razing down the building in the divisional station.

“The hoodlums might have also killed, probably five gallant policemen that confronted them when they attacked,” the police commissioner said.
