FG relax COVID-19 restrictions, School sets to reopen

Following the ease of COVID-19 restrictions by the Federal Government, State governments have been instructed to work out modalities towards the reopening of schools.

This is according to Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and Chairman, PTF on COVID-19, Boss Mustapha during a briefing on Thursday.

Although markets and night clubs are to remain shut while junior civil servants are to stay away from their offices despite the relaxation.

“For educational institutions which include daycare, primary secondary and tertiary care, educational institutions should begin the process of working towards potentially reopening. However, we strongly recommend that states conduct a risk assessment to ensure all schools are at a level of compliance and create a mechanism to assess and monitor that level of compliance.

“Meanwhile all daycare educational institutions are to remain closed to in-person classes until this level of risk is assessed and if there will be opening, it must be staged and preferably carried out in phases to ensure that this does not pose a risk to the general public and in particular to vulnerable groups that might end up getting infected by students going back home.”
