Obinwannem News Ex-presidential aspirant Sowore shot in Abuja

Former presidential candidate, and publisher of Sahara reporters, Omoyele Sowore, was reportedly shot on Monday morning, by the police, at Unity Fountain in Abuja, while trying to gain access to the building.

According to information gathered by Obinwannem News, Sowore was said to have been speaking with a detachment of police officers, stationed at the public facility, when an officer shot at him at close range, right side of his stomach.

Sowore, and his supporters had converged at the police quaters around 8:30am, in protest, to demand an end to insecurity in the country.

Armed policemen stationed at the Unity Fountain shot tear gas canisters on the protesters. Many persons sustained varying degrees of injury, during the incident, while Sowore was said to have been rushed to an undisclosed hospital.

Confirming this incident, Human rights lawyer, Inibehe Effiong, said the “action of the female police officer that shot Sowore was barbaric,” noting the Buhari’s administration had declared war on the civic space.

He said, “Omoyele Sowore, has been shot by a female police officer at the Unity Fountain in Abuja. He has being taken to the hospital for treatment.

“The officer fired a tear gas cannister directly at his right thigh. Sowore, was specifically targeted. The criminal officer is said to be CPS Althine. I watched Sowore being shot live on Facebook.

“This is what Nigeria has been turned into, under Buhari. They’ve declared war on civic space. The FCT police Commissioner has fenced the Unity Fountain, with iron and cables to prevent protest.

“This is a criminal offense, under the Anti-Tortue Act of 2017”.
