Months after the killings of Enugu youths, who converged at Emene community for prayers, by men of the Nigerian security forces; the Ohaneze Youth Council has decided to take up the case to ensure justice.
In a brief statement released Saturday, the Igbo group leader, Comrade Igboaya O. Igboayaka, noted that a case has been filed against the Enugu State governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for failing to set up a panel of judicial inquiry that should investigate the reported killings of Emene youths.
He said, “Finally we have filed the case against Enugu State Governor for judicial accountability (sic) of the Emene Killing.
“I wrote to the Governor requesting him to invoke his powers to order a judicial inquiry giving notice that if he fails after 30 days to do so, I will proceed to court for an ‘order of mandamus’ to force him to do his duty as Chief Security Officer of the state and execute the constitutional protection of the right to life of Nigerian citizens.
“The reason for this suit is my belief in the concept of democratic citizenship.
“Underlying that concept is a guarantee of due processes for any person all citizens in accessing justice in life and in death. We wait for the legal firework.
Igboayaka noted that the case is being fronted by Dr. Sam Amadi whom he said is a great Igbo son leading this struggle for justice.
“Dr Sam Amadi is one great Igbo son leading this struggle for justice. After Ohanaeze Youth Council met him in Abuja, he narrated to the council plans on ground to ensure justice prevails,” he added.
