Emene Massacre: Amnesty International calls for justice, proper investigation

Human rights group, Amnesty International has called out on the Nigerian authorities to conduct a thorough investigation of the killings of members of IPOB in Enugu and ensure the placement of adequate justice.

Recall that members of Indigenous People Of Biafra IPOB were brutally murdered by a combined team of the Nigerian armed forces at Emene yesterday.

Amnesty in reaction, testified that at least four persons were killed by the men of the Nigerian securities which includes DSS and other security apparatus in Emene, Enugu state on Sunday.

According to Amnesty, eyewitnesses reported that a combined team of DSS, police and the military were seen shooting directly at IPOB members during their meeting inside the school premises.

“Amnesty International condemns the violence in Emene, Enugu state on Sunday and calls for an immediate, independent and impartial investigation into the incident that led to the loss of lives.

“At least, four people were killed when the Department of State Security (DSS) entered Emene in Enugu, south-east Nigeria and opened fire on unarmed members of the pro-Biafra group IPOB who were holding a meeting. The DSS in a statement yesterday said that two of their operatives were also killed in the incident.

“Eyewitnesses said that they saw a combined team of DSS, police and the military at the scene. Some of the security forces were reportedly seen shooting directly at IPOB members who were seen carrying stones and sticks.

“Amnesty International condemns the violence and call on the authorities to investigate the incident and bring those responsible for the violence to justice”.
