Emene killings: De-proscribe IPOB — Igbo lawyers tells FG

Recent killings of peaceful unarmed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) by the Nigerian security operatives in Emene, Enugu has caused persistent outrage across the country as many divergent groups have continued to lend their voices in condemnation of the act.

The majority of these groups have also called for a forensic investigation to ascertain what actually happened and bring those involved to Book.

A group of Igbo lawyers under the aegis of League of Igbo Youth Lawyers in Awka condemned the killings of IPOB members and called for De-proscription of IPOB as a terrorist group, stressing that the tag wouldn’t hinder IPOB members from agitating for Biafra freedom.

The group also warned the Federal Government to stop using force on IPOB and other Biafra agitators in order to reduce tensions attributed to the FG in the South East region.

According to the leader of LIYL, Mr. Stanley Okafor, “the people of southeast geopolitical zone recently faced series of persecution from the federal government which should have applied proper integration of Igbo into the Nigerian project”.
