A Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Ibadan reportedly shot Amotekun operatives on Friday for arresting herdsmen found destroying farmlands.

News gathered by Obinwannem confirmed a distress call alerting the Amotekun operatives from farmers to come and arrest some Fulani heardsmen destroying their farmlands, Amotekun swiftly responded, and arrested the herdersmen.

Shortly after the arrest, the DPO ordered the arrest of the two Amotekun operatives, Jenyo and Olatunji Mayowa. The DPO stormed out of his office, collected a gun from the policeman, and shot the leg of one of the Amotekun official at close range, chased them away, stating that the Amotekun has no right to arrest Herdsmen, but armed Robbers.

According to an eye witness,” While one of the Amotekun operatives was speaking with the police officer on duty at the station, the DPO came out of his office , shot at them and chassed them away”.

“One of the men of Amotekun Job Adewale was hit at close range in the right leg and the bullet also broke his right rib, the DPO reloaded the rifile and released more gun shots at the other personnel why they were trying to carry the wounded Adewale.”

Adepoju Ayodeji has been identified as the one who shot the Amotekun personnel. Ayodeji is the divisional police officer in charge of Ile-Iigbon division, Surulere local government area of Ogbomoso, in Oyo State.

Meanwhile, the Oyo state Commandant of Amotekun Olayinka Olayanju (retd) confirmed the incident, adding that the injured Amotekun officials had been taken to Lautech Teaching Hospital for treatment.
