Convoy crash in Zamfara leaves 14 Politicians dead, many injured

A convoy of politicians who were reportedly rushing to meet up with the State Governor’s convoy had collided with a BUA cement trailer, leaving about fourteen of them dead while others were severely injured.

The accident which occurred on Wednesday along Gusau – Zaria road saw the death of fourteen of the politicians on the spot, while several others sustained various degrees of injuries.

Obinwannem news gathered that some politicians in the state had gone to receive the Governor at the border between Zamfara and Katsina States where the three vehicles collided with the BUA cement trailer along Gusau- Zaria road.

In a press statement signed and made available to newsmen in Gusau, the state capital by the Special Adviser to the governor on Media and Public enlightenment, Mr. Zailani Bappa, Governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle condoled with the families of all the deceased persons who lost their lives in the accident, ordered three-day mourning in honor of the departed souls, saying that all flags should fly at half-mast.

Meanwhile, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Mohammed Shehu, confirmed the incident, saying that those who sustained injuries have been taken to the hospital and responding fine to treatment, while the deceased has since been accorded befitting burials attended by hundreds of people.
