Chelsea is keen on signing Manchester united young star angel Gomes on a free transfer at the end of the season, sources have told metro.co.uk. the playmaker is out of contract this summer and united has offered him a contract of £25,000 -a-week in a bid to keep him at the club
United feel it is a generous offer for a player that has been at the club since the age of eight but Gomes’ representatives are unimpressed and have shown little encouragement that the midfielder will sign on current terms. The club has defended their offer, citing mason Greenwood’s recent extension as the benchmark for academy hopefuls making the step up- to the first team
But Gomes is in a strong position. United are desperate to keep the diminutive midfielder but there is a suggestion of impatience from the playmaker’s representatives over his pathway at old Trafford
Gomes has made just six appearances so far this term while the likes of Greenwood, Tahith Chong, and Brandon Williams have all made substantially more. United feel Gomes’ frame means his progress is always going to be slower and he’s been compared to Jesse Lingard in that respect, didn’t break into united sides until the age of 24
But there’s a growing impatience from Gomes’ sides and sources have told metro.co.UK that Chelsea is keen to capitalize on his situation. The blues’ business model in recent years has been built around snapping up the best young British talent and Gomes, who contained England’s Ui9s to world cup glory in 2018, is considered one of the best.
Chelsea have intimated that they’re willing to match United’s contract offer to Gomes but more importantly, will offer him a place in the first-team- squad next season
Frank Lampard is said to be particularly keen on Gomes and his willingness to throw 18- year-old Billy Gilmour into the first team has not gone unnoticed by Gomes’ camp. Should the blues persuade Gomes to move to the Standford bridge, they would have to pay a compensation fee to united as the midfielder is under the age of 24 and came through the red’s academy.
