The Indigenous people of Biafra (IPOB) under the leadership of Nnamdi Kanu issued a press release on 3 June to remind Igbos of their status in the Nigerian polity.

The press statement was conveyed by Emma Power, media publicity secretary through their social media handle. IPOB stated that after the Civil war and Biafran genocide which lasted from 1967 – 1970, the Igbos have not been regarded as equal partners of the country.

IPOB noted that the 2023 elections and the blatant subversion of the people’s buttressed the alienation of the Igbos from power. The group, through the release, made a clarion call to all and sundry of Igbo born to recognize that they are dreaded and not wanted at the country’s helm of affairs.

While describing the current state of the events in Nigerian, the press release read, “Those clamoring for Igbo presidency 2023 have been disgraced, not even Senate president nor House Speaker position was given to Ndi-Igbo who contributes to human and economic development of Nigeria.”

IPOB urged Ndi-Igbo to wake up from the day dreaming about unity of purpose in Nigeria. The body called on al Igbos, far and near to support the clamor for Biafran sovereignty saying, “We are no longer wanted and accepted in Nigeria. Let us fight for our destiny and prosperity.”

The group said that nothing will stop Biafra restoration and that records are being kept to reward both supporters and saboteurs accordingly.
