Breaking News: CDS General Christopher Musa Sets December 2024 Deadline to End Oil Theft in Niger-Delta

In a bold and urgent directive, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has set a firm December 2024 deadline for the military to put an end to crude oil theft and criminal activities in the Niger Delta region. General Musa made this announcement yesterday in Port Harcourt while inaugurating the Defence Joint Monitoring Team at the 6 Division.

Addressing officers and personnel from all three branches of the military, General Musa emphasized the critical importance of safeguarding Nigeria’s oil resources, which remain the country’s primary source of foreign exchange. He tasked the team with ensuring that oil production reaches 2.2 million barrels per day by the December deadline.

“The military has a crucial role to play in protecting our nation’s economic lifeline,” Musa said. “We must eliminate all threats to our oil infrastructure and guarantee the smooth production and transportation of crude oil.”

This directive signals a renewed effort to tackle the persistent issue of oil theft in the Niger-Delta, which has cost Nigeria billions in revenue over the years. The joint military task force will work around the clock to dismantle the criminal networks responsible for illegal bunkering and oil pipeline vandalism.

With the clock ticking towards the December deadline, all eyes are now on the military’s efforts to secure Nigeria’s vital oil industry and restore production levels to meet the nation’s economic goals.
