The ugly situation that ravaged Garkida Community in Gombi Local Government Area of Adamawa State yesterday, 21st February 2020 has brought pain and trauma to many families.
A resident of the community, Hyeladzira Jessica Mshelia who gave an update on the attack said the situation left several houses burnt, which includes those of prominent sons of Garkida, Gen. Paul Tarfa (RTD) among others. Market places, EYN, Living Faith and Anglican churches were also burnt.
A rural health centre was also destroyed; 2 ambulances belonging to the rural centre were also burnt while another 2 were taken by the insurgents.
A police station and a barrack were burnt. Two soldiers were reported killed while civilian casualties are yet to be ascertained.
The insurgents, she said (according to a source) came into the town with about 9 truckloads with their men, and more than 50 motorcycles carrying at least 2 persons.
The saddest part to her is that some people from Garkida, who were recruited by the insurgents were the ones selectively showing the insurgents which property to set ablaze. The attack left a devastating little town of Garkida, according to her. This is heartbreaking.
May God comfort those who lost their loved ones and grant eternal rest to those who lost their lives in the process.
