President Bola Tinubu-led government’s demolition of the Presidential Air Fleet expansion has left Over 200 Nuwalege residents in crisis.

The recent demolition of homes in Nuwalege, Abuja, to accommodate the Presidential Air Fleet extension has left a trail of devastation and despair in its wake. Over 200 families, who had called Nuwalege home for years, have been displaced without prior notice or compensation, leaving them to pick up the pieces of their shattered lives.

The affected residents, who had lived in Nuwalege for generations, were suddenly evicted from their homes, ancestral burial sites, and community, without any regard for their welfare or well-being. The demolition, carried out by the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) at the request of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), has left many families struggling to find alternative housing, food, and other basic necessities.

“We were given no notice, no compensation, and no alternative housing,” said one displaced resident. “We were just told to leave our homes and community, and never come back.”

The residents, who had initially been assured of a two-year notice period, were shocked and disappointed by the sudden demolition. Many have expressed feelings of betrayal and abandonment by the government, which they feel has failed to protect their rights and interests.

“This is a clear case of government failure and neglect,” said another resident. “We demand justice, compensation, and alternative housing for all affected families.”

Despite repeated appeals to the government, the affected families have yet to receive any compensation or support. Authorities have directed compensation inquiries to various ministries and agencies, with no clear resolution in sight.

The incident has raised concerns about the government’s handling of displacement and compensation for affected communities. Many have called for transparency and accountability in the government’s handling of such matters and for the protection of the rights and interests of all citizens.

As the affected families await justice and compensation, the preparations for the Presidential Air Fleet project continue, with NAF personnel deployed to the site. The contrast between the government’s treatment of its citizens and its priorities could not be more stark.

“We will not be silenced or forgotten,” said a resident. “We will continue to demand justice and compensation until our voices are heard.”
